What Does a Naturopath Actually Do?
What to expect from your consultation, the areas Sarah can support, and how your care is thoughtfully personalised.

It is one of the questions I am asked most often — sometimes with a little hesitation, as if people feel they should already know. And honestly, it is a fair question, because naturopathy is so much more than being handed a bottle of supplements and sent on your way.
At its heart, my work begins with time. Time to listen, time to understand your whole health story, and time to explore what might sit beneath the symptoms that brought you here. That part often surprises people — and it is usually the part they value most.
I start with the whole picture
An initial consultation is really a detailed conversation. I will ask about your current concerns, of course, but also your health history, any medications and supplements you are taking, your food, digestion, sleep, energy, stress, menstrual or hormonal patterns, skin, pain and lifestyle — along with any pathology results you already have.
I am looking for patterns and connections: the way one system of the body can quietly influence another. At the same time, I keep in mind that symptoms can have many causes, and part of practising responsibly is knowing when something belongs with your GP or another practitioner.
What I can do as your naturopath
In practical terms, working with me can involve:
- Detailed naturopathic consultations, by telehealth Australia-wide or in person in Beaconsfield, Victoria.
- A careful review of your health story, current medicines and supplements, and any relevant existing pathology.
- An individual plan that may include food and nutrition guidance, lifestyle and nervous-system support, Western herbal medicine, and nutritional supplements where appropriate.
- Functional pathology testing through NutriPATH when it is clinically appropriate and likely to change your plan — rather than testing everyone for everything.
- Access to the Practitioner Dispensary, where practitioner-only herbal and nutritional products may be selected for you after individual assessment.
- Regular review — simplifying or adjusting your plan over time, and referring to or collaborating with your GP or another health professional when needed.
The areas I commonly support
People come to me with all kinds of concerns. Some of the areas I most often support include women’s health and menstrual wellbeing, perimenopause and menopause, digestive and gut concerns, energy and fatigue, stress and sleep, skin, persistent pain and fibromyalgia, and broader inflammatory health patterns — as well as general nutritional wellbeing.
This is not an exhaustive list, and you do not need to have worked out the cause of anything before booking. That is part of my job.
What happens after the consultation?
After we meet, you receive a practical, personalised plan — a small number of clear priorities rather than an overwhelming list of everything you could possibly change. If a practitioner-only product is appropriate for you, I can source it through the Wild Wellness Practitioner Dispensary. New recommendations always require an appropriate consultation or review, and existing clients can request clinically suitable repeats, which I check before dispensing. Products may be collected by arrangement in Beaconsfield, delivered locally where available, or posted anywhere in Australia.
You will never leave with a shopping list you don’t understand — only a plan we have talked through together.
What naturopathy is not
Naturopathy is not a substitute for emergency care, diagnosis or necessary medical treatment, and I will never ask you to stop a prescribed medicine. More supplements are not always better, either. Sometimes safe care means checking an interaction, pausing something, referring you on, or working alongside your medical team. That is not a compromise — it is simply good practice.
How working together unfolds
Most of the people I work with move through a similar gentle rhythm:
- We listen — your story, in your words, without rushing.
- We connect the pieces — looking for patterns across your history, symptoms and lifestyle.
- We investigate when appropriate — reviewing existing results and considering functional testing only when it will genuinely help.
- We create your plan — clear, prioritised and realistic for your life.
- We review and adapt — adjusting as your body responds and things change.
A quiet invitation
You do not need to arrive with perfect notes, a folder of test results, or even the right words for what you are feeling. You just need to begin. If you would like to explore whether naturopathic care might support you, you are warmly welcome to:
Common questions
Do I need a referral to see a naturopath?
No. Clients can book directly, although Sarah may recommend involving their GP or another practitioner where appropriate.
Can you work alongside my GP or specialist?
Yes. Naturopathic care can sit alongside conventional healthcare, with referral or collaboration where needed. Clients should not stop prescribed medicines without speaking with the prescriber.
Will I need supplements or testing?
Not necessarily. Recommendations depend on the individual; testing and practitioner products are considered only when appropriate and useful.
Can I see Sarah online?
Yes. Telehealth is available Australia-wide, with in-person consultations in Beaconsfield, Victoria.
Can anyone order from the Practitioner Dispensary?
New recommendations require an appropriate consultation or review. Existing clients can request repeats, which Sarah reviews for ongoing suitability.
